Michael Jackson's Music Rules Always

No less than five albums by the late King of Pop Michael Jackson are in the Top 10 of the UK Billboard album chart this week, with one, "The Essentials," roosting on top of the list.

Jackson's "The Essentials" grabbed the top spot from last week's ruling CD, "Number Ones" also by the iconic singer.

The other Jackson albums in the Top 10 are "King Of Pop" (number 5), "Thriller" (number 6), and "Off The Wall" (number 10).

In the UK singles chart, Jackson also placed his 1980s hits "Man in the Mirror" and "Billie Jean" at numbers 2 and 10, respectively.

"Man in the Mirror" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1998. It is one of Jackson's most critically acclaimed songs which was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

An instrumental version of the song was played at Jackson's memorial service on July 7.

"Billie Jean," on the other hand, is the song Jackson first danced the moonwalk to in 1982.

It is notable that these Jackson songs and albums made the mainstream charts and not just the catalogue charts compared to most postmortem releases by other artists.

Ironically, in the US where Jackson came, none of his albums and singles figured in the Top 10 charts. Rather, hit compilation album "NOW 31!" which contains Charice Pempengco's "Note To God" led a parade of strong debut releases in the US Billboard 200 albums chart.

"Note To God" is a remake of R&B singer Jojo's unreleased track from her "The High Road" CD. When released a few weeks back, Charice's version made the iTunes charts in the US and Canada.

Meanwhile, The Black Eyed Peas retained the top two spots in the US Billboard 100 singles chart with "I Gotta Feeling" and "Boom Boom Pow."

Next month's Manila visitor, Lady Gaga, nabbed the 10th spot in the US album chart with "The Fame." Her latest single "Love Game" stays comfy at number 5 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
