Emma is perhaps best known for the role of Hermione Granger in the series of films. She first auditioned when she was nine years old and commenced filming when she was ten.

Playing the role of the bookish but kind hearted and loyal ‘Mudblood’ has made Emma a household name and won her a legion of loyal fans across the world. She has starred in all six of the films in which the six series is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince showing in July 2009.

Emma will commence filming the final series of the book in February 2009. The film of JK Rowling’s seventh book will be filmed as one but released in two parts.

The daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. She has one French grandmother, and lived in Paris until the age of five. She moved with her mother and younger brother, Alex, to Oxfordshire, following her parents' divorce.

From the age of six, she wanted to become an actress, and for a number of years, she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school where she studied singing, dancing and acting. By age 10, she had performed in various Stagecoach productions and school plays, including Arthur: The Young Years and The Happy Prince, but she had never acted professionally before the Harry Potter series. "I had no idea of the scale of the film series", she said in a 2007 interview with Parade; "if I had I would have been completely overwhelmed".

Emma Watson picks a college in the U.S.

While the cast of "Harry Potter" might stay hush about plotlines, "Half-Blood Prince" star Emma Watson has revealed an important change is in her future.

According to Paste magazine, Emma confirmed she will enroll as a college freshman at Brown University this fall.

"I am going to Brown, which is an Ivy League establishment in the U.S.A. I've got a place there to read literature," she revealed to the music mag.

In recent months, the studious star made a worldwide college tour that involved many stops on the East Coast and Great Britain. But although her "Potter" co-star Daniel Radcliffe previously told Britain's Guardian newspaper that Emma was attending Brown, the actress remained mum on the subject until now.

And with the cat out of the bag, Emma opened up about her enthusiasm for hitting the books.

"It sounds so geeky, but I really do like studying and reading, and if I'm not working on 'Harry Potter,' then my greatest relaxation is to sit with a book," she told Paste. "That's how I escape stress -- in literature. I always have several books on the go at any one moment, so it's no good you asking 'What's on the bedside table at the moment, Emma?' because often I can't even see the table."

Emma does realize that many at Brown will recognize her for her performances and not for her test scores, but she hopes her fellow students will get over it quickly.

"I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known s 'Emma Watson, the student from the U.K.' rather than 'Emma Watson who starred in those 'Harry Potter' films.'"

Emma Watson role in Ballet Shoes

The BBC’s saw Emma’s first professional acting role outside of the world when she plays the character of Pauline Fossil, one of three adopted sisters who individually embark on very different passions and career paths which inevitably bring conflict and heart ache.

Emma is joined by Yasmin Paige and Lucy Boynton who play her screen sister s Petrova and Posy. The television drama which is based on the novel by Noel Streatfeild, also stars Victoria Wood, Armelia Fox and Richard Griffiths as the girl’s eccentric but well meaning adoptive father.

Set in 1950’s, the drama was filmed in 2007 in London, England and broadcast that Christmas. It was watched by a phenomenal audience of millions and received tremendous critical acclaim.

Hermione casts biggest spell on 'Potter' fans

Harry Potter might be the most famous boy wizard in the world, but it's brainy Hermione Granger who is casting the biggest spell on fans, according to an online poll released on Tuesday.

Hermione emerged as the most popular character in J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, and Emma Watson, the 19-year-old who plays the schoolgirl, was the actor fans believe will have the best career -- possibly as a sex symbol -- once the eight "Potter" movies have ended.

Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Potter, laughed off suggestions he might be gay, but told AOL's Moviefone website in an interview; "It's always good to keep them guessing."

With "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" about to open in movie theaters round the world, 39 percent of those questioned in the poll at AOL's Moviefone.com and Bebo.com ranked Granger as their favorite character, with Potter coming in next at 29 percent.

Some 51 percent thought Watson would have the best post-Potter career, with a large majority (67 percent) approving the idea of her appearing naked.

Watson has been quoted as saying she would be prepared to strip for a movie -- but only if it was made by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci.

Radcliffe, who turns 20 years-old next week and who has already bared all in the stage production of "Equus", said he felt for his co-star and the media attention she is now attracting.

"She's always been a very, very pretty girl, and now suddenly that she turned 18, everyone's like 'OK, now she's fair game! Paparazzi!'," Radcliffe told Moviefone.com.

"It is kind of creepy, I did feel bad for her. Men will never know the kind of humiliation of having an upskirt done, which poor old Emma had," he said, referring to pictures of recent "wardrobe malfunctions" by the actress.

Radcliffe said he was aware that he was becoming something of an icon in the gay community. "Some people think I'm gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It's always good to keep them guessing," he laughed.

"I don't go on any blogs or chats or anything, but my friends are demons for them, and apparently someone said 'Daniel Radcliffe is gay. He's got a gay face!' I really don't know what a gay face is," Radcliffe said.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" opens in movie theaters on July 15. Radcliffe, Watson and the rest of the cast are currently filming the two movies of the final book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", which are due out in late 2010 and 2011.

Emma Watson Personal Life

After moving to Oxford with her mother and brother, she attended The Dragon School, an independent preparatory school, until June 2003 and then moved to Headington School, an independent school for girls, also in Oxford. While on film sets, she and her peers were tutored for up to five hours a day; despite the focus on filming she maintained high academic standards. In June 2006, she took GCSE examinations in 10 subjects, achieving eight A* and two A grades; she was a target of friendly ridicule on the Harry Potter set because of her straight-A exam results. She received A grades in her 2008 A level examinations in English Literature, Geography and Art, and in her 2007 AS (advanced subsidiary) level in History of Art.


Before beginning her university studies, she took a gap year to film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows beginning in February 2009, but said she "definitely wants to go to university". Despite numerous contradictory news stories, some from highly-reputable sources, claiming that she is 'definitely' attending Trinity College, Cambridge, Columbia University, Brown University or Yale, she was reluctant to publicly commit to any one institution, saying that she would announce her decision first on her official website. In interviews with Jonathan Ross and David Letterman in July 2009, she confirmed that she was planning to study liberal arts in the United States, saying that – having missed so much school as a child for filming – the "broad curriculum" of American higher education appealed to her more than British universities, "where you have to just choose one thing to study for three years". In July 2009, after a second storm of rumour, The Providence Journal reported that Watson had "grudgingly admitted" that she had chosen Brown University, Rhode Island. Watson defended her attempts to avoid announcing her choice of university – accidentally slipped by Daniel Radcliffe and producer David Heyman, in interviews publicising the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – saying that she "want to be normal. Her work in the Harry Potter series has earned her more than £10 million, and she has acknowledged she will never have to work for money – in March 2009 she was ranked 6th on the Forbes list of "Most Valuable Young Stars". However, she has declined to leave school to become a full-time actress, saying "People can’t understand why I don’t want to ... but school life keeps me in touch with my friends. It keeps me in touch with reality". She has been positive about working as a child actress, saying her parents and colleagues helped make her experience a positive one. She enjoys a close friendship with her fellow Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, describing them as a "unique support system" for the stresses of film work, and saying that after working with them for the ten years of the film series, "they really are like my siblings".

Emma lists her interests as dancing, singing, field hockey, tennis, art, fly fishing, and donates to WTT (Wild Trout Trust). She describes herself as "a bit of a feminist", and admires fellow actors Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts.

Emma Watson role in The Tale of Despereaux

This is Emma’s first foray into the world of animation. She plays the voice of Princess Pea, a very sad and lonely princess who loses her mother through an untimely mishap with a rat and a bowl of soup and as a result loses her father through a deep and isolating mourning.

The film which is directed by Sam Fell and Rob Stevenhagen, co-stars Matthew Broderick as the voice of fearless little mouse Despereaux, who having been rejected by his own family finds solace in the company of the beautiful but sad princess and makes it his quest to protect her from all harm. The beautifully animated tale which is based on the book by Kate DiCamillo also co-stars Dustin Hoffman, Sigourney Weaver, Robbie Coltrane, Tracey Ullman and Kevin Kline.

Emma recorded the voice in London at intervals over 2007 and 2008. She was fortunate to work alongside Matthew Broderick who flew to London to record key scenes with Emma in the recording studio.
